Kyle,
This was an excellent podcast. Thanks for publishing it. I have been meditating on the concept of slavery for months. There is a huge difference between the slavery of the world and the slavery of Christ.
The paid clergy system promotes the slavery of the world, confusing believers in thinking that we are to be servants of the world. This is especially evident in the financial point of view. College students are encouraged to enroll in college so they can get the higher paying jobs. But notice that this is still a slave mentality of the world - working for someone else. Those professionals with the high degrees are still slaves to the masters that they work for, albeit wealthy slaves.
But the slavery of Christ is more akin to John Elderigde's, "Wild at Heart." Following Christ into unknown territory because of our trust in Him. The believers should be the entrepreneurs who create the jobs for others, not the best trained slave. Serving Christ as His bondslave means being free and willing to do whatever He wants. And what He wants is always for the good of everyone. |
