01-18-2009 Obama's Inauguration and the Politics of Prophecy
In this conversation with Timothy L Price, recorded a couple days before the US Presidential inauguration, we talk about the election, our identity as Kingdom citizens while residents in America, various proclamations by self-proclaimed prophets regarding the election and the will of God, and how such things play into the fear which drives much of electoral politics.
After a long hiatus, Kyle & Tim reunite to continue the conversation. Prompted by an email message from a podcast listener, we discuss authority and submission as they apply to both spiritual and secular relationships, how such concepts are often abused, and what we believe the Bible really says about such things.
This episode was actually recorded in July during the Searching Together Conference. A few of us (Tommy Freed, Mark Shearer, our featured guest Peter Van Dyke, myself, and a pocket-sized digital recorder) took a break for a picnic lunch on the cliffs overlooking the St. Croix River.
The audio quality is not the best, as there's lots of outside noise from wind, birds, hikers in the park, and boats on the river, but the conversation is pretty clear and understandable, I think.
Pete shares some of his experiences with abusive religion, and later contrasts "success-driven" church systems with the kinds of ministry that comes from people compelled by love.
Special thanks to Eve and Steve Bjork for provided the boxed lunch, and to Searching Together for the occasion which brought us all together.
